“…(Atlantic Ballet Theatre) has been crisscrossing the country with this poignant work. The glory of the ballet are four duets that detail woman as victim, each with its own striking physical images….With strong theatrical values, expressive choreography and committed dancers, Ghosts of Violence is art reaching out to the community, trying to make a difference.”
Paula Citron, Globe and Mail December 26, 2012
Ghosts of Violence is an award winning multi-media production and cornerstone of Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada’s national initiative CELEBRATE COURAGE.
CELEBRATE COURAGE is a ground-breaking national program of Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada developed to build awareness and dialogue on intimate partner violence in communities large and small across Canada. Since its official launch at the National Arts Centre in February, 2011, CELEBRATE COURAGE has created a ground swell of support and positive media attention from coast to coast.
CELEBRATE COURAGE includes a significant community engagement/partnership process that brings together service provider organizations at the theatre in every location, providing a unique forum that combines a high level professional mult-media ballet production, Ghosts of Violence , with an on-site forum for dialogue and education. National partners are the RCMP-National Crime Prevention, Canadian Nurses Association and the Canadian Association of Social Workers along with 200 local and regional community partners across Canada to date.
